Child Safety Seat Manufacturer Issues Safety Recall in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Elsewhere

A child safety seat manufacturer has issued a recall for approximately 89,000 products sold between July 2010 and May 2011. Eddie Bauer Deluxe 3-in-1, Safety 1st Alpha Omega Elite, Safety 1st Complete Air SE, and Safety 1st Complete Air LX child seat models manufactured by Dorel Juvenile USA reportedly do not meet National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) standards due to incorrect and confusing installation labels. According to the NHTSA, the error could potentially lead parents to install the safety seats improperly. This means a child could be injured or killed in a traffic wreck.

Despite the recall, Dorel Juvenile USA spokesperson Julie Vallese said no injuries have resulted from the erroneous installation labels. She added that the instructions included in each car seat owner's manual are correct and the company has received no complaints in connection with the error. The NHTSA apparently ordered the recall despite company claims that the erroneous rear-facing installation instructions were unlikely to cause harm to a child. The company is now offering a repair kit to parents who purchased any of the affected child safety seat products.

It is important for parents in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and the rest of the nation to remain vigilant about the safety of any product used by their child. Regrettably, car seats, cribs, strollers, and other products designed for use by the parents of small children are not always as safe as they appear. Parents should always keep in mind that any product can pose a danger to a child. In many situations, a repair kit or retrofitted safety attachment may not provide your kids with enough protection from an unsafe product. If your infant or toddler was hurt or killed by a defective child safety seat or other product produced for use by children, you should contact a skilled personal injury lawyer today.
