Man Charged in Fatal Brooklyn Hit-and-Run Traffic Crash

A 44-year-old man was recently charged with leaving the scene of a fatal traffic accident that killed a young married couple and their unborn baby in Brooklyn. According to Kings County District Attorney Charles J. Hynes, additional indictments are also possible. The wreck allegedly occurred around 1:30 am on March 3rd when the man drove a car into a livery cab while travelling about 60 miles per hour in Williamsburg. Two 21-year-old passengers reportedly died as a result of the injuries they sustained in the wreck. Doctors purportedly delivered the couple's unborn son prematurely, but he died the following day at New York's Bellevue Hospital. The driver of the livery cab also allegedly sustained minor injuries in the fatal collision.

The 44-year-old motorist reportedly surrendered to police four days after the crash. Although it is unclear whether he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the deadly wreck occurred, New York police stated the man was arrested and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol in February. If convicted, the alleged hit-and-run driver could face life in prison.

Too often, innocent victims are hurt or die due to the actions of a negligent motorist.
